Pressure Tank – Steve’s Pump Service
A pressure tank works with your well pump to keep water under pressure. The professional installers at Steve’s Pump Service will help you choose the right tank for your water system and space availability. A pressure tank works to keep well water available at all times, even between pump cycles. It will also prevent rapid cycling of the pump motor, helping to prolong the life of your pump.

Conventional systems include a pressure tank that is between 81 gallons and 119 gallons. These pressure tanks have a bladder inside that works to maintain the pressure. Most systems will run efficiently and effectively on a 40/60 PSI (pounds per square inch) setting, where your pressure switch indicates to the pump to turn on when the pressure in the tank gets below 40 PSI, and to shut off when it builds to 60 PSI. With this setting the pressure tank should maintain a pressure reading at the top valve stem of 37 PSI. Your pressure tank is ⅔ full of air, so it should sound hollow when tapped on its side. Please do not attempt to change your pressure settings without consulting with one of our knowledgeable technicians.
